Welcome to the Richmond Youth Peace Project!
We are the youth program of the Richmond Peace Education Center. The Peace Center itself was founded in 1980. RYPP began in 2004, at the request of several Richmond-area students, following the murders of two classmates.
We have a team of teen conflict resolution trainers who, with the guidance of experienced adult trainers, lead workshops for children and teens. In the process, they develop their own leadership and peacemaking skills as well. We also sponsor an annual spring conference called the Youth Peace Summit. And, we also encourage young people to express their ideas through the arts–we hold an annual “Educoncert” honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. each winter. This show features music, dance, drama and spoken word by talented young people from throughout the Richmond region.
